Biggest Google G-mail Deployment in the world! Where else but here in Australia

The NSW Department of Education in Australia is Google’s largest client to implement the G-mail system.

According to recent reports, the new Gmail for students will include tough filtering and security features. It is estimated these features combined with the integration of the email to the Department’s existing portal will cost approximately $9.5 million over a three year period.

This will displace the department’s previous $30 million contract with Microsoft partner Unisys, which ran over five years.

How exciting for Google, NSW Department of Education and for the Australian students?

With their target market including students, alumni, staff and faculty, Google are positioning themselves for a long haul by educating and tapping a highly desirable target market that companies and advertisers are willing to pay top dollar to reach.

It is a great initiative of the NSW Labor Government as this may prove to be a better way for students and teachers in NSW public schools to gain access to online services that can actually change learning experience and knowledge transfer.

Great system for the students as they now have 6 GB (email storage) to play with in contrast to 35MB earlier and a powerful email system.
